"Out in the Streets" is a groundbreaking multi-disciplinary art project by Creative
Arts Activist Skeith DeWine and his team, in collaboration with the Creative Vision
Foundation which is his 501c sponsor and the California Leonardo da Vinci Institute
of Discovery. This initiative aims to highlight and empower BIPOC and LGBTQ+
skateboarders through various artistic mediums, including paintings, drawings,
photographs, and films.
Promoting Equity in Skateboarding.
The project seeks to bring greater equity and equality to the sport of skateboarding,
with a particular focus on LGBTQ+ and BIPOC athletes. Special emphasis is placed
on underrepresented groups, such as lesbian skateboarders.
There are approximately 8.4 million skateboarders in America.
LGBTQ+ skateboarders: 350,000 - 500,000 (4-6%)
BIPOC skateboarders: 1,848,000 (20%!)
The global skateboarding industry generates $3.2 billion annually, with projected 4% growth over the next 24 months.
The project aims to create new role models by showcasing forgotten or neglected LGBTQ+ and BIPOC skateboard athletes, acknowledging their contributions and inspiring future generations.
The project has several connections to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, focusing on community engagement and highlighting the importance of diversity in sports.
"Out in the Streets" extends beyond the U.S., addressing human rights issues globally.
The project includes:
A discreet letter and sticker exchange between the skateboarding clubs in Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, and the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ skateboarding clubs of Californis, as well as other skateboarding clubs. This is strictly on the down low for the time being, but panel discussions will be brought forward at a later time period. Discreet/subtle efforts to support LGBTQ+ / BIPOC individuals in countries where they face severe persecution, such as Iraq.
The project also showcases allies who have contributed to breaking down racial, social, and economic barriers in skateboarding. Notable figures include Beto O'Rourke, Sean Penn, Linda Carter, and Steven Colbert.
"Out in the Streets" is not just an art project; it's a movement towards inclusivity, representation, and social change in the world of skateboarding. By supporting this initiative, investors and corporate sponsors have the opportunity to be part of a transformative force in sports and society, aligning with values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
