Victor Payan is an interdisciplinary artist celebrated for his unique blend of humor and social commentary, which he employs to engage communities and advocate for social justice. A Stanford University alumnus, he founded Media Arts Santa Ana (MASA), an organization dedicated to empowering local artists and media creators. Payan's work often manifests in public art projects that tackle societal issues while fostering community empowerment.
Sandra “Pocha” Peña is an interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker renowned for her commitment to mentoring emerging artists while exploring local lore and intercultural mythologies. As a co-creator of the Aztec Gold series with Victor Payan, Peña not only engages audiences through the iconography of Mexican wrestling but also fosters community empowerment and artistic collaboration. Her efforts extend beyond her art, as she has played a pivotal role in establishing the City of Santa Ana’s first Arts Commission and continues to inspire fellow artists through her innovative projects and arts curator of MASARTE Art Gallery of Santa Ana, California.
Steve Schulte is a pioneering LGBTQ politician and activist who served as Mayor of West Hollywood and was a director of the Gay and Lesbian Center in Los Angeles. He was one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States, playing a crucial role in the formation and early governance of West Hollywood as a gay-majority city. Schulte's extensive experience in LGBTQ advocacy and local politics spans several decades, making him a respected figure in the community. His involvement in the "Out In the Streets Skateboard Project" advisory board brings valuable insight from his years of public service and dedication to LGBTQ rights.
Reve Douglas (he/him), is a trailblazing arts activist who has been championing the trans community for over 7 years. As a community outreach specialist, Reve has a stellar track record of organizing, promoting, and participating in art exhibitions, underground films, and experimental music performances. His sculptural work delves into the intricate aspects of sexual and social fulfillment. Additionally, Reve is an active member of the Los Angeles-based nonprofit Pelvic Sanctuary, where he helps others understand the crucial links between nutrition, digestion, and pelvic health – a valuable resource for athletes, sports enthusiasts as well as others."
The project, “Out In The Streets”, is a multi-disciplined experience aimed at bringing to light, the real, human experiences of often underrepresented segments within the skateboarding community through art exhibits, photography, panel discussions and education.
